As the emerging signals indicate that the Edo Central Senate bye-election would hold soon, Comrade Valentine Oleabhiele, a Team Member in the Idumonza Isidahomhen Campaign Council, IICC, says the election will be won by the Social Democratic Party, SDP convincingly and with a wide margin.
Oleabhiele explains, in this interview, that SDP aspirant, Idumonza Isidahomhen, is in the race prepared with clear mission to end the 26 years of emptiness that PDP and APC senatorial representation has shamefully brought to Esan community.
Oleabhiele who also spoke about Mallam Nasir El-Rufai’s new membership of SDP emphasized the need for INEC, stakeholders and voters to conform with the stipulated rules of the election.

What are your views and expectations from INEC Regarding Edo Central and Anambra South Senatorial By-Elections?
The Senate’s directive for INEC to conduct by-elections in Edo Central and Anambra South is a welcome development. Our expectation is that INEC will uphold the principles of free, fair, and credible elections. The electoral body must ensure transparency in voter registration, distribution of materials, and collation of results. Security agencies must also be neutral and work to prevent electoral violence or manipulation.
For democracy to thrive, Nigerians must have confidence in the electoral process. We urge INEC to deploy adequate resources, follow due process, and resist any form of political interference. The SDP is ready to participate actively, present credible candidates, and give the people a real choice in electing representatives who will genuinely serve their interests.
Technically, Idumonza Isidahomhen is a strong and credible contender for the Edo Central Senatorial seat. As a dedicated advocate for good governance, economic development, and social justice, he embodies the values that the Social Democratic Party (SDP) stands for. His deep understanding of the challenges facing Edo Central, coupled with his commitment to grassroots empowerment, positions him as the best candidate to represent the people effectively.

How do you feel about Mallam Nasir El-Rufai’s defection to SDP?
The defection of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) is a significant political event. It reflects the growing dissatisfaction with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP). His decision to join the SDP is a strong endorsement of our party’s vision for a more inclusive, progressive, and people-centered governance. We welcome him and believe his experience will add value to our collective efforts.
In what ways do you think his movement would benefit the SDP?
El-Rufai’s defection brings credibility and national recognition to the SDP. As a former governor and key political figure, his presence will attract more Nigerians to the party, strengthen our structure, and boost our chances in upcoming elections. Do you think more prominent politicians will join the SDP following his defection?
