No fewer than thirty passengers have been reportedly burnt to death in an auto crash in the Odigbo Local Council Area of Ondo State.
The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday, when two commercial buses had a head-on collision and burst into flames at the Onipetesi axis along the Ore/Lagos Expressway.
32 passengers were said to be involved in the accident, out of which 28 were burnt beyond recognition, two survivors died before getting to the hospital, while 2 other passengers are receiving treatment.
A source attributed the cause of the accident to excessive speeding on the part of the drivers.
Confirming the unfortunate incident, the Ondo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Samuel Ibitoye, disclosed that a preliminary investigation showed one of the vehicles drove against traffic.
Ibitoye urged drivers to ensure proper vehicle maintenance and exercise caution, while driving.
The sector commander advised passengers to speak out against unsafe driving practices, stressing that road safety is a shared responsibility.
