The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON, Sokoto State chapter, has distanced itself from a recent call for the nomination of Sen. Aliyu Wamakko as the running mate to President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
Senator Wamakko, a chieftain of the All Progressive Congress, APC, represents Sokoto North Senatorial District in the national assembly.
A statement made available to journalists in Sokoto on Monday by the State ALGON Chairman and Chairman, Tambuwal Local Government Area, Alhaji Abba Shehu-Tambuwal clarified that the statement made by the ALGON Secretary and Chairman of Kebbe LGA, Alhaji Abdullahi Yarima, was purely his personal opinion.
Shehu-Tambuwal described Yarima’s claim, which alluded to Wamakko’s alleged aspiration for the Vice Presidency in 2027, as baseless and lacking credibility.
“Wamakko has not publicly expressed any intention to run for the office of Vice President, and it is therefore premature and inappropriate to speculate about such a matter,” he stated.
The Sokoto State ALGON chairman also urged members of the public to disregard the claim, emphasising the need for caution and responsible communication, especially on sensitive national issues.
He also called on ALGON members to refrain from making unauthorised statements.
